Explosion of dangerous goods in Ningbo port

On August 9, 2024, while a container ship was berthing in the Ningbo Port area, a dangerous goods container on board exploded, and thick smoke covered the scene. Once discovered, relevant departments on site immediately initiated relevant emergency measures. After preliminary verification, there were no casualties at the scene.
Christian Roeloffs, cofounder and CEO of Container xChange emphasized that the disruption at Ningbo Port, combined with pre-existing congestion at major Asian ports, would lead to deteriorated ocean schedules and further delays in container availability. Roeloffs recommended several actions to companies, including exploring alternative shipping routes, increasing safety protocols, staying informed with regular updates, and planning for extended dwell times to mitigate disruptions from the Ningbo port closure.
