Barium nitrate (Ba(NO₃)₂), as an important chemical substance, has a history of application that dates back to the invention of ancient Chinese. As early as the Tang and Song dynasties, barium-containing minerals were used to make fireworks, imparting a unique green glow to the flames. This discovery not only enriched traditional celebration culture but also sowed seeds for future chemical research.

Entering the Industrial Age, the uses of barium nitrate expanded significantly. In the 19th century, it became a key in the production of signal flares and illumination bombs; after the 20th century, high-purity barium nitrate shone in high-end fields such as optical and electronic ceramics.Today, with the rise of green chemistry, barium nitrate is once again revitalized in new technologies such as environmentally friendly fireworks and wastewater treatment.

Experts point out that the evolution of barium nitrate can be regarded as "a microcosm of the  history of human technology and civilization", and it may up a brand-new track in the field of new energy materials in the future. This "chemical legend" spanning a millennium is still writing new chapters.
